Esturine Crocodiles (Salties) can be found in large numbers in tidals rivers and creeks like this. The heavy vegetation provides good nesting sites for the females and there is plenty of prey in the form of fish and other animals which inhabit these muddy waters.
 Swimming Crocodile |
Crocodiles are good swimmers and have been known to cover large distances in search of new territory. They have been seen swimming quite a long way out to sea and several people have been attacked in recent years while swimming in the sea. Popular beaches are protected by an extensive system of crocodile traps which continually remove animals from these areas.
Crocodiles are also able to move overland during the monsoonal wet season when extensive areas of bush become flooded for months. | Flooded bush country |
