Crocodile River Adventure

Watch jumping crocodiles on a crocodile river adventure only a short distance from Darwin. The Adelaide River (not the Aligator River) crawls with crocs waiting for tourist boats and an easy feed.

No need to worry though, it's not the tourists that the crocodiles feed on, these crocs have been trained over many years to approach the tourist boats for handouts from the tour operators. Mmm.. maybe "handouts" is not such a good word to use here!

As the photo on the right shows, these tours get you very close to huge crocodiles in the wild, and passengers are advised very strongly not to lean over the water in any way.

In fact the meat is offered to the crocs dangling from long rods used by the tour guides. The amount of meat is strictly monitored to ensure these crocodiles natural feeding habits are not disrupted.
The action of leaping high in the water for food is completely natural for crocodiles which will attack anything within reach, including birds, wild pigs and even cattle coming to drink.
Boats on Adelaide RiverAdelaide River kiosk
A giant crocodile guards the kiosk facities at the Adelaide River where several boats wait for the next trip into crocodile country.
These cruises take about an hour and are often integrated into a full day bus tour from Darwin.
