Fogg Dam Birds and Water Lillies
Seeing Fogg Dam Birds including jabiru, jacana, brolga and ibis amongst the water lillies and crocodiles and an occasional wallaby is a highlight of the outback.

Originally developed as a rice farm in the 1950's, Fogg Dam is now a haven for water birds feeding in the shallow water which persists through the dry season. Water birds have literally thousands of square kilometers of suitable habitat in the wet season however this shrinks dramatically due to the total lack of rain after May, and birds begin to concentrate in the remaining areas of water. | Pygmy Geese are frequent visitors to the calm waters, especially as the amount of surface water available on flood plains shrinks during the long dry season. | |
| Known as "the Jesus Bird" because of it's ability to apparently walk on water, the Comb-Crested Jacana is common here. It's long spindly toes enable it to walk on the slight support provided by vegetation in the water. |
