Lost City Litchfield Park Rock Formations
Strangely weathered rocks at Lost City Litchfield Park are intriguing and eerily resemble man made structures. Although the main formation is only accessible by 4WD vehicles, there are other formations closer to the main road through the park which give some idea of the feeling of the Lost City.
 | | | These smaller rock formations near Tolmer Falls are easy to visit. Carved from the sandstone by the weathering effects of wind and rain over millions of years they form part of the escarpment which produces the many waterfalls in Litchfield Park. Water from heavy monsoonal rains is trapped in the porous sandstone during the wet season and then feeds the springs during the dry season. This permanent source of water has allowed the area to support a diverse ecosystem and visitors are likely to see goannas, wallabies, kangaroos, and lots of different birds at any time of the year. |
The actual lost city does have structures which almost look man made. Access is restricted to good 4WD vehicles and should only be attempted by experienced drivers. The track to the lost city turns left off the main road between Buley Rockholes and Tolmer Falls |
